Celebrating Warkworth’s Sport, Clubs, and the 1950 Empire Games

24 September @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Event Series Event Series (See All)
In 1950, Auckland hosted the British Empire Games (now the Commonwealth Games) — the largest international sporting event New Zealand had ever seen. Held just five years after WWII, the Games were a chance to celebrate sport and strengthen ties across the Commonwealth.

Our latest display, which is part of the Auckland Heritage Festival 2025,  highlights this historic moment through the lens of local sports and clubs, including a special collection of items belonging to Dudley Wright, who not only served on the organising committee but also represented New Zealand in fencing.
