New Zealanders who lived through the flu crisis of October to December 1918 knew that they had witnessed something extraordinary. In her talk Jenny will explore the arrival of what became known as the ‘Spanish flu’ first in Auckland, then in Warkworth and Rodney. She will draw on family stories, contemporary newspapers, cemetery records and photos to share what she has learned about the experiences of those who lived through ‘Black November’ and those who fell victim to it.
